A New Year. A New Start.

Well here we are again. A new year has just past us in a flash and it’s time once again to look ahead and make those changes you’ve always talked about and complete those hobby goals you’ve amassed year after year and will no doubt add to again this year. It’s all great fun though and that’s why it was a complete bummer when all hobby mojo left me at the end of last year. This was due to those pesky life problems and a good old dose of depression. But fear not! I am doing fine now and have started to get the hobby juices flowing again.

This post will hopefully layout the projects for this year and hopefully I will stick to them. I’m going to make a good effort in doing so as I think that’s one of the major driving forces for hobby satisfaction, the completion of a project. The projects listed below have all been started or have the models already to start. So here we go!

1: Realm of Warcry Nurgle Warband.

I think it’s a pretty doable list and I’m hoping it stays that way. Time will tell though and as we are all aware it only takes one new release model to throw it all into chaos 🙂

Lets now take look at some models!! Here we have the Inquisitor warband of Meridian Geld. There’s nothing particularly inspired by this group but it is a good old solid warband, with the usual suspects. All that is left to do is add a vehicle and paint them.

Next up we have my Nurgle Champion for Realm of Warcry. The very old and very dirty Bloabech Wormfinger Pallid Reaper of the Effluvient Mire.

Really quite pleased with this one and some of his followers are nearly finished as well. They are a group of Pestigors. Below is his stat card for playing the games.

Last but not least we have The Angels Tears for my Blood Angels Horus Heresy army. Loved these models from the moment they came out and wanted to do a good job on them. I’m quite proud of the red armour.

Pipeline Projects

Hello again!

As you all know as hobbyists we usually have more things on the go and ideas floating around in our heads than we can ever have a hope in finishing. This coupled with the ever expanding awesomeness of releases that feed our imagination and addiction makes this even harder to achieve. Now, I find it even harder still because, for the life of me, I just can’t leave a model how it is, it must be changed even if it’s just a head swap. So here I am compiling a visual list of models that will get my attention again in due course.

First up The war band of The Flawed Saint. This is a small project really and is designed for very small skirmish inq28 style games.

I actually finished the Flawed Saint herself the other day.

 

Next up is a Nurgle warband.

This is it so far. What I’m aiming for is a large group of poxwalker types ( I have loads on sprues!) called the Locked. I’m aiming for at least 20.

 

Flesh Eater Space Marines Kill Team.

These guys have been around for a while and they’ve even had a few runs on the battlefield. I find red quite a hard colour to get right and I think they need more attention to make the red pop a bit more, although I don’t want them to look shiny. Marines, in my view, should always look like they’re in the wars. I’m planning on creating some transfers, or do free hand, for them as well based on the original design of their chapter symbol, which is much better than the newer one.

 

Lastly I am slowly collecting some good old pewter models. That’s right I’ve had an urge to get back to my roots and I’m tracking down all the models from The Realms of Chaos I loved as a kid, teen and young adult, and creating an old school Chaos army. I have a long way to go and at the time of writing some things are in the post, but here’s a few shots of what I have at the moment.

I really want some of the original Blood Letters, at least five, so if any of you wonderful people have them and wouldn’t mind parting with them then let me know 🙂

Warcry = Hobby joy

Hello all.

So Warcry. Have you all had a go? I did with Alex of Leadballoony a few weeks back and I have to say it was a breath of hobby fresh air to me. So much so that we made a plan to get a warband each together with the aim of kicking each others butt and, of course me being me, I decided to create a whole board just to play on. That’s what I’ve been busy with this weekend and this is the result so far.

Taking inspiration from the Realm of Chaos books of yore I set out to create a desolate chaos waste land with a particular attention to textures. These textures were achieved a number of ways. The first was the longest process and it was done by leaving my used IPA ( isopropyl alcohol ) out in the sun and elements for 8 months. The IPA is used to clean resin 3D prints and so once the weather had done it’s thing I was left with very textured lumps of solid resin, perfect for terrain. The second is the use of modeling paste from an art store. Great stuff! You can shape it and stick things in it and create some pretty cool effects. Third is good old GW texture paints and last is sand, small slate and gravel. The section in the middle will be a nasty looking river in which I hope to drown some of Alex’s war band of self righteous elves. 😉

SLAANESH WAR BAND pt1

Hello all!

So it’s been a while. Way too long really but that’s the vacuum of Instagram for you. I’ve been posting on there for a while and while it’s good and quick it’s eye candy and lacks a certain depth. So I’m aiming to give my blog more love that it deserves and will start with my Slaanesh project.

The first installment has to be my Daemon Engine for the group. It’s a colossal monster of metal tentacles and writhing, tortured flesh and like aspects of the rest of this project I’ve used kitbashing, sculpting and 3D printing to create it. I documented it step by step as well so you can see the process of creating it and to date I think it’s my most complex undertaking.

So sit back and enjoy and I’ll be back again very soon 🙂

Worship of the Worm. The Great Worm and The Excreted.

The next installment of my AoS28 war band is the Great Worm itself. This beast of a model has been sitting around waiting to be finished for quite some time now and I’m actually relieved it’s finally done.

The painting technique I used on this large model was to create a few washes out of really dirty paint water and while it was sunny outside fling the paint at the model with a big brush. With the hot weather it dried really fast and created a wonderful effect for the skin. I would then apply more washes of dark green and black and then drybrush areas with terminatus stone. Details were picked out with nurgles rot and blood for the blood god. All very satisfying flinging paint around, I felt like I was back in art class when I was ten 😉

 

As you can see the Worm has a few hangers-on. The biggest one being one of the repulsive Excreted. These disgusting chaps get, you guessed it, excreted from the Great Worm itself and follow The Women in White in her quest to bring the worship of the great worm to all and have them consumed and reborn for the glory of Nurgle. The following members of the band are the Excreted champion and banner bearer.

And to round things off, an image of the whole gang as it stands at the moment. More Excreted will follow soon.

All Things Fleshy. A Possessed Marine of Slaanesh.

Hello Heretics!

The call of Chaos has been ringing in my ears and I’ve succumbed to its seducing tones. The call of Slaanesh as caused me to drop all other projects and focus only on she who thirsts and being the self-centred, over controlling and extremely jealous type bitch bastard it is I obeyed. My soul has been covered in silk and poked with pins and my mind has had thoughts of the truly deranged and disturbing things. One such vision is this chap. I’ve yet to give him a name so any suggestions would be great, serious or otherwise……….. go on poke some fun at him, you know you want to! He actually likes being poked as he’s your typical sadistic, masochistic, possessed, psychopath marine!

I have to say the he was a joy to kit bash and sculpt and to date I think he’s one of my better painted miniatures. I really loved blending the fleshy pink skin tones with the washed out purples of his armour. The aim was to make the armour appear to be changing into flesh as the Daemon inside him takes more control of the Marine he used to be.

So what will his purpose be? Well he’s the beginnings of a new war band, which will be part of a new campaign I am in the middle of writing. I shall reveal more in the next coming months but lets just say that it will be better than the Chapel!

Challenge round up!!

Hello all! Long time no write on my behalf and I’ve just had a flick through what you’ve all been up to and I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. You busy bunch!

So why the silence? Well I’ve been busy moving work location and trying to keep the business afloat. It’s been hard going these last few months and I’ve had to change my outlook for this year. The first change that I’m in the process of making is the change to the blog. It’s become a shop! I’m still in the process of creating it but when it’s finished it’ll have my Mag Bellum tile system to purchase, random bits and models I create and a download section for large terrain pieces so you can 3D print them yourself. Busy, Busy, Busy!!! So as you can imagine this all takes some time, as well as dealing with the real world and it’s challenges I have, however found some time to get some hobby stuff done, as it’s tied in nicely with my goals for the blog and business.

JANUARY CHALLENGE. Scenery.

Azazel January challenge, I decided to have a bash at trying to finish off one of my Mag Bellum skirmish boards. Geared towards ][nq28 gaming this one is called The Obsidian Room and it’s a prototype for things to come with the system, namely multi level sections. Unfortunately I didn’t quite get it finished but I was damn close!

 

 

FEBRUARY CHALLENGE. Fembruary

So Alex decided to get the Fembruary challenge going again and I jumped on it straight away! For this I decided to paint one of my own sculpts the Plague Shepherd. She’s been sitting around half done for a while and so it was time I got the paint out and slap some on her. I’m pretty pleased with how she’s come out and will be adding some plague ridden little creeps for her to herd around soon. Once they are done I will be attempting a kick starter with her, so keep tuned for more info.

Worship of the Worm. The Worm begins to take shape.

The Great Worm has been sitting on my shelf for quite a long time now waiting for that time when I started designing the war band that would worship it. The idea came to me at work when I had to design and 3D print a tape worm found in dogs for a vet client ( my work takes me to starnge places sometimes ) so there I was doing research into these wriggly nasties, it was not the most pleasant thing to look at let me tell you, especially over lunch! Any way I designed this worm from looking at closeups of its anatomy and while I was doing so my mind drifted to Nurgle… Obviously!….. Once I’d finished with that job I designed a large worm like body bloated with corruption and printed it out in three sections due to its size. It would be the base for the creature with the rest of the model being scratched built and kit bashed from various chaos and undead bits from my bitz box.

So below are some images of where I’m at with this monster. It’s been a challenge for me as I usually only paint characters and war bands but I’ve really enjoyed creating different effects on its skin and will be looking to enhance this look of old earth and decay that the Great Worm represents.

Worship of the Worm. Maw Worm, The Plague Singer and The Women in White.

The bell has tolled and now the lords and servants of the great worm rise to unleash their slow and painful wrath upon all that was green and good. In this post you shall meet the three that make up the leadership of my AoS28 war band.

MAW WORM.

A murderous, thrashing frenzy of daemonic disease. Maw Worm is a force of anti nature, a whirling mess of tentacles, teeth and chains and the demise of all living things. It is bound to The Women in White and has acted as her protector for many risings of the Worm and it is worshiped by the foul Excreted as an idol of death.

THE PLAGUE SINGER.

No one knows for sure but it is said that the small child like Plague singer is the offspring of The Women in White. This quiet diseased boy can be found shuffling around the group of worm worshippers with his daemonic book of songs following behind him, his presence calming his ladies throng of Excreted. That is until the time of the singing begins. With words that rot the soul and stir those infected to acts of bloody carnage, spitting putrid blood forth to corrode any life it touches, his words reach ears and they bleed rot flies and worms and are consumed from within. The power of the songs of plagues rushes over the battle field like a wind of rot and disease. Victims fall to the ground holding their ears trying to block out the insanity but they are in vain for once the song has you your soul will be forever damned.

THE WOMEN IN WHITE.

The central force of the worship of the worm. A sorceress of supreme power and as old as the earth she rises from. She is the caller of the Great Worm and as such commands its power, she is the lady of the Excreted, the foot soldiers of the worm cult, who are born from the Great Worm itself as it burrows through and consumes all in its path.

Her beginnings are unknown but Nurgle has bestowed great power and influence on her and when the cult rises it is her soft voice that stirs the The Great Worm and her followers rise from the earth to consume and rot the lands of Ghyran.

Worship of the Worm. The Herald.

The bell tolls for Ghryan. The worship of the worm has begun again and with it comes the decay of all that was beautiful. The lands will be consumed from beneath, the rot will start from under the skin and the excrement of Chaos will reign supreme.

 

It starts now. The bell tolls. It’s sound heralding the beginning of the end and the cruel laughter that follows.

 

 

Welcome to the first post of my AoS28 project, The Worship of the Worm. Now I haven’t been that into AoS in the past but with the recent release of Soul Wars that all changed. It has become a much grittier and grim setting and with the wonderful night haunt models I was set on a path to create a few projects around it. Making a war-band for AoS28 was inevitable and as I already have a night haunt project I chose to create my story around the followers of Nurgle. It’s early days yet and I have a load of other projects on the go ( don’t we all ) but I have finished the little puss filled, bell swinging loon known as the Herald you see above.
