Greetings flesh things! Today I have something different to share. It’s a small project for Killteam or Inq28 and it’s all about this character called Keprix Cyba Mon. Keprix is a Hunter Knight of the Mechanicum and that means she is charged with the duty of hunting down and slaying the Dark Mechanicum. I always liked the idea of a noble Knight type Ad Mech character who was sworn to bring justice to those who strayed from the Omnissiah with blade and flame. The war band, so far, is very medieval in theme as I wanted that crusader image of Knights to be present and the colour palette is lighter tones, with red as the spot colour, to show their purity and belief in their cause. I think it contrasts well against the more traditional red attire you see the servants of the Mechcanicum wear.
This project has also had an influence on how I will paint my Adepta Sororitas, which is great, because I’ve been stuck on that for ages now. Below is the Censer Bearer cause every Knight needs their favourite fragrance whilst dealing out punishment.
Also to go with the group, when they are all present and done, is a custom box for them to live in. It’s a 3D designed and printed insert that is magnetised and has a section for holding the Mechcanicum Killteam Dice. Nice and cosy!
Still very w.i.p at the moment and I’m yet to decide on the symbols I will paint/transfer onto it.
Hello! It’s Sunday again! My god the weeks fly, I must be having too much fun 😉 On the hobby front that is very true, what with the daily painting sessions and frantic kitbashing blitzes, the Saturday night RPG sessions, which are just the best and a right laugh, to the finishing of long over due projects, it’s all pretty sweet. I do however miss a good old massacre over some lovingly crafted terrain and the socialising that goes with it. These times will happen again to be sure and when they do I will have an abundance of models and terrain to choose from, as I hope you all will too.
So onto things hobby nuts! I was recently asked to do my top 5 on Instagram. Now I don’t usually take part in these sort of things but as it was hobby related I thought I would give it a bash. It was hard!! Really hard! It took me about a week of thinking about it and thinking of all the models I’d done and reasons why they may make the cut. Five is a horrible number for such a thing as, as I’m sure you will agree, painting models, we put so much effort into them and learn so much from doing it that they all have meaning to us. So after it got all too much I took the plunge and below are my top five.
Ok whats up next! A quick project I painted this weekend. A work in monochrome. Really enjoyed painting with such a limited palette and I’m keen to try it on my next Mag Bellum set. This is a Inq28 warband that’s been lying around staring at me looking all depressing in their undercoat begging me to finish them off and I’m glad I did because what I’ve ended up with is quite a striking group that was quick to paint.
Next up we have another war band. Inq28 is getting a lot of love these days! This is the Flawed Saint and her followers of dubious nature.
And last but not least. A big Adepta Sororitas Relic Chapel Tank. This was a bit of a distraction and came about wanting to paint a tank but not owning one so I designed the chassis in CAD and 3D printed it plus a few other parts like the treads and then used a combination of failed prints, random plastic parts and some old used GW scenery to create the rest. The St at the top is also a 3D print and the whole thing was great fun to make.
The aim of this beast is to carry sisters with heavy weapons whilst striking faith into the hordes of fanatics surrounding it and fear to those who oppose it! Armed with 6 heavy flamers it can surround itself in righteous flame whilst a Sister dialogues screams from the pulpit at the head of the beast.
Hello peeps! As the time goes by and we find that our time at home has been extended I find myself thinking of the future and what would happen if after all the furlough I won’t have a job to go back to. It’s a problem quite a few of us will face and so I’ve been using this time to get my Mag Bellum venture up and running properly. It has taken some time to be sure and I’ve had some good feed back from people so now I feel the time has come. The system works and I would love to share it with you!
The way this will start will be with Patreon. Patreon if you don’t know is site for artists and the like that you can sign up with and for a fee help them continue with their work. You get something for your money and in my case you will get 3D models to print and create your own Mag Bellum boards.
As well as Patreon I will be offering a service for those who want the product but don’t have the means to make it. This will take a bit of time to sort out though but I’m thinking along the lines of it being like a commission, so only making two or so orders at a time. So lots to do still but I’m very close to launch and I’ll be updating as I go along on Instagram and here. Well, I think that’s about it for now. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome and I’ll leave you with a few shots of what will be on offer should you choose to support me on this journey.
Hello peeps! Hope you’re all well in hobby land. As for my self I must say I’ve been suffering from a lack of it 😦 and yes it’s the same old culprit we call life and things you must do instead of wanting to do. As important as all that shit is I feel it’s just as important to give time to your interests. My wife calls it the pie of life, and she is correct, one slice should never get too big. So here I am reslicing my pie to much more balanced and enjoyable portions.
As some of you are aware I have been developing a tile system called Mag Bellum. Its magnetic and solid! It’s also been a hard slog, due to pie issues, and I feel I am now ready to give some much needed attention to it. So let’s jump in shall we 🙂
First up you have this selection of tiles.
This bunch is enough to create a 2 x 2 skirmish sized board.
Nice! But wait. You can do so much more.
What about walls? Yep they will be available to and look like this.
As you can see they come as a basic sci- fi design but you will be able to change that by sliding various inserts into place. This one is the Library insert. Door ways and smaller wall sections have also been designed.
All this is in preparation for Salute 2020. I plan to have it in the shop soon and will be documenting my road to Salute so you will see my progress on the designs and what will be available on the day, I’m going to have some terrain pieces to buy and a couple of complete special edition sets.
I will now leave you with some tasty shots of some of the kits you can expect to purchase in the very near future. Cheers! 🙂
As you all know as hobbyists we usually have more things on the go and ideas floating around in our heads than we can ever have a hope in finishing. This coupled with the ever expanding awesomeness of releases that feed our imagination and addiction makes this even harder to achieve. Now, I find it even harder still because, for the life of me, I just can’t leave a model how it is, it must be changed even if it’s just a head swap. So here I am compiling a visual list of models that will get my attention again in due course.
First up The war band of The Flawed Saint. This is a small project really and is designed for very small skirmish inq28 style games.
I actually finished the Flawed Saint herself the other day.
Next up is a Nurgle warband.
This is it so far. What I’m aiming for is a large group of poxwalker types ( I have loads on sprues!) called the Locked. I’m aiming for at least 20.
Flesh Eater Space Marines Kill Team.
These guys have been around for a while and they’ve even had a few runs on the battlefield. I find red quite a hard colour to get right and I think they need more attention to make the red pop a bit more, although I don’t want them to look shiny. Marines, in my view, should always look like they’re in the wars. I’m planning on creating some transfers, or do free hand, for them as well based on the original design of their chapter symbol, which is much better than the newer one.
Lastly I am slowly collecting some good old pewter models. That’s right I’ve had an urge to get back to my roots and I’m tracking down all the models from The Realms of Chaos I loved as a kid, teen and young adult, and creating an old school Chaos army. I have a long way to go and at the time of writing some things are in the post, but here’s a few shots of what I have at the moment.
I really want some of the original Blood Letters, at least five, so if any of you wonderful people have them and wouldn’t mind parting with them then let me know 🙂
Greetings fellow hobby nuts! I have decided that it is high time I started an ][nq28 style narrative game again. Yes that’s right the massive undertaking and creative slaughter that ensues is just another aspect of this wonderful hobby that I love, plus having some creative people share in your vision is priceless.
So what will this one be about? Well it will be set on Terra at the time of the Festival of Sanguinala and will involve gangs of kids and young adults defending themselves against the predators that lurk in the under hives. Think Stranger Things and the Goonies but in grim dark 40K. That’s the basic gist of it but of course more in depth musings and character write ups will follow in due time. First though I’d like to share the beginnings of the Sanguinala Procession with you.
These two characters are yet to be named and I have yet to decide if they’ll be friend or foe.
The mighty statue of Sanguinus is a 3D print from SebTheis on Thingyverse with a few GW bits to finish him off.
So Warcry. Have you all had a go? I did with Alex of Leadballoony a few weeks back and I have to say it was a breath of hobby fresh air to me. So much so that we made a plan to get a warband each together with the aim of kicking each others butt and, of course me being me, I decided to create a whole board just to play on. That’s what I’ve been busy with this weekend and this is the result so far.
Taking inspiration from the Realm of Chaos books of yore I set out to create a desolate chaos waste land with a particular attention to textures. These textures were achieved a number of ways. The first was the longest process and it was done by leaving my used IPA ( isopropyl alcohol ) out in the sun and elements for 8 months. The IPA is used to clean resin 3D prints and so once the weather had done it’s thing I was left with very textured lumps of solid resin, perfect for terrain. The second is the use of modeling paste from an art store. Great stuff! You can shape it and stick things in it and create some pretty cool effects. Third is good old GW texture paints and last is sand, small slate and gravel. The section in the middle will be a nasty looking river in which I hope to drown some of Alex’s war band of self righteous elves. 😉
Well I hope you like what you see and I’ll leave you with a couple of images of the first character of my war band. The Unmade!!
So it’s been a while. Way too long really but that’s the vacuum of Instagram for you. I’ve been posting on there for a while and while it’s good and quick it’s eye candy and lacks a certain depth. So I’m aiming to give my blog more love that it deserves and will start with my Slaanesh project.
The first installment has to be my Daemon Engine for the group. It’s a colossal monster of metal tentacles and writhing, tortured flesh and like aspects of the rest of this project I’ve used kitbashing, sculpting and 3D printing to create it. I documented it step by step as well so you can see the process of creating it and to date I think it’s my most complex undertaking.
So sit back and enjoy and I’ll be back again very soon 🙂
And finally all painted up using mainly contrast and washes.
Hi all! Just a quick one today. I’ve slapped some paint on my cult Limo and started to paint my Patriarch who will be riding in the back ready to pounce on some poor unfortunates. It’s a quick paint job as cool limo’s are always black and shiny and not much else. 🙂
I’ll be taking a 3D printed kit of this model to Salute this year so if you’re there come and say hi and take a look. Loads of other bits and pieces will be on show too. Cheers!
The Great Worm has been sitting on my shelf for quite a long time now waiting for that time when I started designing the war band that would worship it. The idea came to me at work when I had to design and 3D print a tape worm found in dogs for a vet client ( my work takes me to starnge places sometimes ) so there I was doing research into these wriggly nasties, it was not the most pleasant thing to look at let me tell you, especially over lunch! Any way I designed this worm from looking at closeups of its anatomy and while I was doing so my mind drifted to Nurgle… Obviously!….. Once I’d finished with that job I designed a large worm like body bloated with corruption and printed it out in three sections due to its size. It would be the base for the creature with the rest of the model being scratched built and kit bashed from various chaos and undead bits from my bitz box.
So below are some images of where I’m at with this monster. It’s been a challenge for me as I usually only paint characters and war bands but I’ve really enjoyed creating different effects on its skin and will be looking to enhance this look of old earth and decay that the Great Worm represents.
