The Sanguinala Procession

Greetings confined ones! I do hope this post finds you deep in hobby joy as the outside world gets weirder. I for one am extremely glad to be part of this wonderful community and the sheer volume of awesome projects being produced is truly amazing. I salute you all! Keep the inspiration flowing good people and we shall get through this strange time together.

So, what have I been up to? A few things actually but today it’s all about the first model for my Sanguinala Procession. This model is the centre of it all, a huge statue of the Primarch Sanguinius being pulled along by a hulking brute while the Blood Cardinal preaches from here pulpit at the front, decaying wings of the Angel splayed out behind her.

The inspiration for this project came from reading the book Vaults of Terra, The Carrion Throne by Chris Wraight. Its an excellent read and I can highly recommend it as it has wonderful descriptions of Terra in it and he nails the feeling of the place perfectly.

Sanguinius model is a 3D print of a free file called Bloody Glorious Hawk-boy by SebTheis. It was perfect for this project, thank you.

Next up will be the dancing girls! Blood skull pom poms here we come 😉

  1. I don’t even know where to start — every part of this is perfect! I’m a huge fan of the Vaults of Terra series, and to see a part of its lore brought to life like this is a special delight. Utterly fantastic work!

I also think the painting deserves a special shout out here: There’s something so effective in the contrast between the drab browns and greys of the cart and icon and the bright reds of the clerics — there’s probably a message about the ecclesiarchy hidden in there somewhere 😉

    1. Thanks very much! It took me a while to get around to painting it, the characters were going to be a bone colour but then I thought Nah! Red! Blood! Had to be done and I’m glad it turned out OK 🙂

  2. First of all; the paintwork is just exquisite mate. That rich red, the pallid and unhealthy flesh of the brute and the tarnished metal of the statue – all spot on. Secondly, the concept is brilliant – exactly the kind of thing I imagine being wheeled around through the decaying splendour of 41st Millennium Terra. Bring on the dancing girls – can’t wait to see the rest of the procession!

    1. Thanks Wudu! I’m aiming to capture some of the insanity that Terra must inflict upon her inhabitants, It’s a bastion of humanity but also a crypt world where true horrors of mans own making lurk and death is just part of every ones day.
